Marin, Hoberman, Hickey Featured in Pediatrics 75th Anniversary

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Jennifer Marin, MD, MSc, on her participation in the 75th Anniversary of Pediatrics commentary “Advancing the Quality of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in Pediatrics” and Robert Hickey, MD, FAAP, FAHA, and Alejandro Hoberman, MD, for being a featured authors in the commentary by the AAP.

The article was published by the Section of Emergency Medicine (SOEM) within the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), one of AAP’s largest sections. This section provides a forum for advocacy, education and research on patient care in pediatric emergency medicine.

In this commentary by the SOEM, sixteen members of the executive committee reviewed every issue from the 75-year history and initially identified 81 ‘highly regarded’ papers regarding the practice of PEM. A team of current and previous AAP Committee on PEM (COPEM) and SOEM’s leaders selected 12 landmark papers from the 81.

One of the landmark articles over the 75 years featured was “Oral versus initial intravenous therapy for urinary tract infections in young febrile children” featured in the July 1999 issue by Hickey, Hoberman, et al. This article and research concluded that oral cefixime can be recommended as a safe and effective treatment for children with fever and urinary tract infection.
