Academic Excellence

By the completion of training, each of our fellows has conceptualized and conducted an individual scholarly project with a completed manuscript that is worthy of publication, as outlined in our timeline below.

To support our fellows, we provide an annual research curriculum where fellows acquire the statistical skills needed to conduct their scholarly work.  Our program’s Scholarly Oversight Committee (SOC) meets quarterly and provides support and guidance to enable fellows to identify mentors, refine projects and achieve their individual scholarly goals.

Additional academic highlights of our program:

  • We are a Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) site, participating in high-priority, multi-institutional research on the prevention and management of acute illnesses and injuries in children.
  • The University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute provides statistical support for fellows’ scholarly projects.
  • All fellows are supported to attend the National PEM Fellow Conference, typically during their first year of training. Fellows also present their work at local, regional and national meetings.
